ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspect, Friday Akonobi, over the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a six-year-old girl in a case linked to an Enugu-based suspected native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, also known as “Edey Play” or “Edey Show.”
Investigations revealed that the victim, Ozioma Nwankwo, was abducted on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State by a five-man syndicate and later sold to the alleged native doctor in Enugu State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Akonobi was arrested on Saturday by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence.
According to Ikenga, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect confessed to participating in the crime alongside four other accomplices who are currently at large.
The police spokesperson said the victim was taken to Enugu and handed over to the suspected native doctor, adding that the suspects allegedly operated as agents and were paid ₦1 million each for every virgin girl delivered.
He further disclosed that the child was murdered and allegedly used for ritual purposes, noting that the suspected native doctor has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, a development that has sparked public outrage following the circulation of related videos on social media.
Ikenga assured the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice, promising to provide updates as investigations progress.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command recently arrested a 26-year-old man, Anikpe Chibuike, in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Ogechukwu Mmadubugwu, a 35-year-old single mother, who was killed in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, on December 9, 2025.
The suspect was apprehended on January 7, 2026, by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, Ikenga added.
