Police Probe Mysterious Disappearance of Man After Child Labour Seminar in Akure

…the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Alayande, revealed that the case had been formally reported.

ONDO, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The Ondo State Police Command has begun a full-scale investigation into the puzzling disappearance of Olaloye Olatunde, an Owo resident who vanished shortly after attending a seminar in Akure, the state capital.

Olatunde was said to have travelled to Akure on Sunday, August 24, to participate in a Child Labour programme jointly organised by the Trace Project Akure and the Charakids Foundation at Sunview Hotel. The seminar reportedly concluded without incident, but days later, Olatunde’s whereabouts remain a mystery.

Family sources said the father of two maintained regular contact with them between Monday and Wednesday of the event. However, by Friday, August 29, all attempts to reach him proved futile as his phone was switched off. His wife’s anxiety deepened when repeated calls went unanswered.

Alarmed, the family visited Sunview Hotel, where their concern intensified: Olatunde’s clothes, shoes, and other personal belongings were reportedly found neatly arranged in his room, untouched, even after other participants had checked out.

The unsettling discovery heightened fears that something sinister might have occurred. Neither the hotel management nor the seminar organisers has released any official statement as of press time.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Alayande, revealed that the case had been formally reported and that detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit had already commenced investigations.

Alayande appealed for calm and urged members of the public to refrain from speculation while the police work to unravel the mystery.

“The police command has launched a thorough investigation, and our operatives are on the trail of any leads that could shed light on Mr Olatunde’s disappearance,” Alayande assured.

The circumstances surrounding Olatunde’s sudden disappearance, especially the discovery of his untouched belongings, have left both his family and the local community bewildered.

For now, relatives, friends, and colleagues remain on edge, anxiously awaiting updates from the authorities as the search for the missing participant continues.
