PSC Promotes Over 770 Police Officers, Including DIG, AIGs, CPs

Police Promotions: PSC Elevates DIG, 7 AIGs, 13 CPs, 30 DCPs, 724 Officers

…The Police promotion exercise was overseen by the PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu.

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday approved the promotion of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force after they successfully completed written examinations and oral interviews conducted on December 17, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The Police promotion exercise was overseen by the PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu.

One of the beneficiaries, AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Prior to his promotion, he served as the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Community Policing Project Department at the Force Headquarters.

Also promoted were seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG). They include CP Ihebom Chukwuma (FCID), CP Maxwell Olatokunbo (K9), and CP Abaniwonda Olufemi (Delta).

In addition, 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to Commissioners of Police. Among them are DCP Babalola Ayodeji Johnson, DCP Ali Umar Fage, DCP Cyril Uche Obiozo, and DCP Tabitha Bako.

The promotion list further includes 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) advanced to Deputy Commissioners of Police, such as ACP Muhammad Nuhu Diggi (Dala, Kano), ACP Udu Moses Ogechi (Gombe), and ACP Afolaogun Toyin (Abeokuta).

Furthermore, 51 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of ACP, 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) promoted to CSP, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) moved up to SP, while 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) were advanced to the rank of DSP.
