ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State Police Command has recovered firearms, a vehicle, and suspected stolen cash following a shoot-out with fleeing criminals in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.
Recovered items include a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated single-barrel rifle, an ash-coloured Toyota Highlander (registration UWN 680 PE), ₦636,700 in suspected stolen cash, and other incriminating items.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the recovery in a statement on Tuesday. He said operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Patrol Team carried out the operation at around 5:00 pm.
“The operatives of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police Special Patrol, during an offensive security operation in Abagana on December 16, 2025, recovered one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated single-barrel rifle, an ash Toyota Highlander with registration number UWN 680 PE, suspected stolen cash totaling ₦636,700, and other incriminating items. The recovery followed the abandonment of the suspects’ vehicle after it was involved in an accident during a hot pursuit,” the statement partly read.
According to Ikenga, the suspects managed to escape, but intelligence-led operations have been intensified to ensure their arrest. “The suspects are currently being tracked, and further developments will be communicated in due course,” he added.
He reassured residents of the command’s dedication to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property. “The Anambra State Police Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its commitment to proactive policing, the maintenance of law and order, and the safeguarding of lives and property across the state,” the statement said.
It was reported on December 10, 2025, that the command arrested a 26-year-old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, during a separate operation in Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area. The suspect, injured during the raid, was apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
A locally made Beretta pistol and 11 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him. He allegedly confessed to leading multiple criminal gangs operating within Anambra and neighbouring states.
