Anambra police smash criminal network

…the suspect confessed to serving as the official photographer for the separatist group operating from a camp known as Mother Valley – Police.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that in a renewed offensive against violent crime, the Anambra State Police Command has recorded a string of major operational successes, arresting a notorious separatist leader, rescuing kidnapped victims, and recovering arms during coordinated raids across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the breakthroughs in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to the PPRO, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Gospel Ozioma Nneto, popularly known as “OZ,” a 31-year-old suspected commander of a proscribed armed separatist group. Nneto, described by police as a terrorist, kidnapper, and armed robber, was apprehended in the early hours of Monday.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to serving as the official photographer for the separatist group and operating from a camp known as “Mother Valley” located in the volatile Orsumohu-Orsu axis.

Police said discreet investigations are ongoing to unravel his network of collaborators.

In a separate operation on Monday evening, a joint security team comprising operatives from Nimo Division and local vigilante members combed forested areas between Oraukwu and Nimo communities following a tip-off.

The operation led to the successful rescue of two female kidnap victims. The victims, whose identities are being withheld for security reasons, are currently undergoing medical and psychological evaluation before reuniting with their families.

Also, on Sunday evening, operatives from Nteje Division engaged armed hoodlums in a gun battle following an attempted attack by two suspected criminals.

The police team neutralised the assailants and recovered a pump-action gun, a dagger, and other incriminating items from the scene.

The police say efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the criminal syndicates involved in these incidents.

“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguard all residents and visitors in Anambra State,” SP Ikenga said.
