…says the Pro-INEC protest is to encourage the commission.
Abuja, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that a Pro-INEC protest in Abuja unfolded on Friday, as scores of demonstrators marched peacefully to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters. The rally was organized in support of INEC, warning against attempts to distract the commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The demonstrators, under the aegis of the Arewa Grassroots Leaders Assembly (AGLA), marched from the National Assembly complex to INEC, waving placards reading “Chairman, Stay the course” and “We support free, fair and peaceful elections.”
The protest came shortly after the Senate rejected calls for a fresh amendment to the Electoral Act 2026, despite pressure from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, and former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Addressing journalists, AGLA National President, Collins Onogu, said the gathering was meant to commend the electoral commission. “Our presence today is a Pro-INEC protest in Abuja to encourage the commission for its commitment to credible elections. Democracy thrives on trust built through consistent processes,” he noted
