‎‎BORNO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Professor Abubakar Mohammed El-Jummah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Nigerian Army University, Biu, has died after nearly a year in the custody of Boko Haram militants.

‎Professor El-Jummah was abducted on March 3, 2025, along the Damaturu–Buni Yadi–Biu road. He reportedly fell ill and died while in captivity, with his family in Maiduguri receiving the news on Wednesday.

‎A funeral prayer in absentia (Salatul Ga’ib) was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Ngomari Old Airport Juma’at Mosque, near his residence. The ceremony attracted academics, friends, and sympathisers of the late lecturer.

‎A family member, who requested anonymity, said: “He was in Boko Haram captivity from March 2, 2025, until his death. May Allah forgive him and grant him mercy.” The source declined to comment on any ransom demands.
