…residents said the heavily armed assailants invaded Rapyam community, Plateau State at about 1:00 a.m.
Jos, Nigeria – The iNews Times reports that one person has been killed and several others injured following a fresh attack on Rapyam community in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia.
The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) confirmed that the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026, killing a resident identified as Emmanuel Matthew and setting houses and other properties ablaze.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Rwang Tengwong, said information from residents revealed that the heavily armed assailants invaded Rapyam at about 1:00 a.m., advancing from the Werre-Lugere and Mahanga axis of Fan District.
According to Tengwong, the attackers unleashed terror on residents, leaving many with varying degrees of injuries while destroying property during the assault.
He lamented that the attack occurred despite a prior security alert reportedly transmitted to security agencies hours before the incident.
“This tragic incident occurred despite a prior security alert issued at about 8:58 p.m. on February 5, 2026, which listed several communities in Fan District and parts of Vom in Jos South Local Government Area as potential targets,” Tengwong stated.
The BYM spokesperson expressed deep concern over what he described as the continued failure of security operatives to act promptly on credible intelligence, resulting in avoidable loss of lives.
He called on the Federal and Plateau State Governments, Operation Enduring Peace, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to urgently deploy adequate personnel, intensify patrols, and adopt proactive measures to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
The association also extended condolences to the family of the slain victim and the people of Rapyam community.
“BYM extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Emmanuel Matthew, the people of Rapyam, and the entire Fan District, while demanding justice for all victims of these unprovoked attacks,” the statement added.
