…the Assembly directed the nominees to submit 40 copies of their curriculum vitae,
RIVERS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Rivers State House of Assembly has acknowledged receipt of a list of commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and has invited nine of them to appear for screening and confirmation.
The iNews Times earlier reported that Fubara forwarded the names to the Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule for consideration as members of the State Executive Council, pending legislative approval.
The nominations were submitted about three weeks after the governor dismissed eight commissioners who were not impacted by the Supreme Court ruling affirming Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker. Fubara also terminated the appointments of all his Special Advisers.
The invitation was conveyed in a special government announcement dated March 3 and signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi.
According to the statement, the Assembly directed the nominees to submit 40 copies of their curriculum vitae, photocopies of their credentials, and proof of tax compliance. The nominees listed are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Mr Lekue Kenneth, Otonye Amachree, and Amairigha Edward Hart. All required documents are to be submitted to the Office of the Clerk at the Assembly Quarters.
Notably, none of the recently removed commissioners appeared on the new list presented to lawmakers.
Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory are said to have settled their political rift following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu had also stepped into the impeachment process initiated by 27 lawmakers aligned with Wike against the governor and his deputy. In a statement issued more than two weeks ago, Amaewhule confirmed the withdrawal of the impeachment notice in line with agreements reached after the President’s intervention.
Additional nominees are expected, as Rivers State comprises 23 local government areas.
