…Shittu was shot during a birthday party
US- The iNews Times | Sheriff Shittu, a 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer based in the United States, has been killed in a shooting following a confrontation with an intoxicated patron at a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York.
He was shot during a birthday party at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in the East Flatbush neighbourhood in the early hours of February 14, local media reported.
Authorities said the incident happened around 4:25 a.m. when a man, who was being escorted out of the club by security officers, allegedly pulled out a gun and began shooting.
Witness accounts indicated that the violence stemmed from a dispute involving the patron, who was reportedly causing a disturbance inside the lounge.
The suspect was said to have acted disorderly and allegedly touched some female guests inappropriately, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which led to a heated argument.
He had attended the celebration with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to mark a friend’s birthday.
Speaking to local media, Fawaz described the harrowing moment his brother was shot.
“I was screaming his name. I was trying to wake him up,” he said, explaining that tensions escalated after the patron’s unruly conduct inside the club.
News 12 Brooklyn reported that members of Shittu’s family are demanding justice and questioning the venue’s security measures.
“We don’t know how the security did not properly search someone before allowing a gun into the club,” Salem Shittu, another brother of the deceased, was quoted as saying. “He was already being escorted out when he opened fire.”
Police said the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
Shittu was taken to One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Centre, where he was later confirmed dead.
His family described him as a rising fashion designer striving to build a career in the United States before the tragic incident cut his life short.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
