…this marks a transformative milestone for Enugu East/Isi-Uzo, the South East, and the nation
ENUGU, NIGERIA -The iNews Times| President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Federal University in Enugu State, further expanding access to higher education in Nigeria.
The newly established institution, Federal University of Agriculture, Ako-Nike, was signed into law on Tuesday by the president following its passage by the 10th National Assembly.
The bill was sponsored by Prof. Paul Nnamchi, who represents the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency. In a statement issued in Abuja, Nnamchi expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu on behalf of his constituents.
“This marks a transformative milestone for Enugu East/Isi-Uzo, the South East, and the nation as a whole,” Nnamchi said. “The university will become a hub for agricultural innovation, rural development, academic excellence, and job creation—ultimately strengthening national food security and economic progress.”
He praised the President’s action as a reflection of visionary leadership and inclusive governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This move reaffirms that previously overlooked communities like Ako-Nike are now being recognized and strategically empowered,” he added. “We also thank the National Assembly and all stakeholders who helped bring this dream to life.”
Nnamchi concluded by describing Ako-Nike not just as a land of rich soil, but now as a growing center of knowledge, opportunity, and national purpose.
It is worth noting that Enugu State had earlier secured a Federal Polytechnic at Ohodo during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
