ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times |President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed allegations that his administration is favouring Lagos State in the allocation of federal projects, insisting that his government is committed to serving all Nigerians equally.

Over the weekend, a report surfaced alleging that the Tinubu-led government had channelled projects worth over N3 trillion to Lagos State alone, at the expense of other regions. The claims sparked criticism from stakeholders who argued that such distribution, if true, undermined the federal character principle and equity in national development.

Responding to the controversy, the President, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reassure Nigerians of his government’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity.

Tinubu stated:

“I took an oath to serve all Nigerians, not a section. That oath guides every bridge, road, rail, power, and health project we deliver.”

Tinubu went on to highlight a range of ongoing projects across the country, underscoring his claim that his administration is pursuing balanced development.

He listed the Lagos-Calabar Highway in the South, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway in the North, the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railway in the East, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway in the central region as examples of major infrastructural investments that cut across geopolitical zones.

Tinubu also referenced the Trans-Saharan highway, which links Nigeria to other African countries, as proof of his administration’s continental outlook. In the health sector, he disclosed that health centres are being rehabilitated nationwide, while light rail projects in Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, and Ogun states have been approved.

According to him, these efforts are creating 250,000 jobs, reviving electricity supply in Kaduna through the restored 255MW power plant, and reconnecting communities with critical infrastructure such as the Onitsha and Bonny bridges. He also cited expanding oil exploration in Bauchi and Gombe, as well as progress on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, which has now crossed the River Niger.

Reiterating his vision under the Renewed Hope agenda, Tinubu stressed that every Nigerian stands to benefit from the administration’s programmes.

“Every farmer who needs a road, every trader who needs power, every child who needs a school, every patient who needs care… this is who we are building for. This is the equity of Renewed Hope. No Nigerian is second class, no region is left behind. Together we will rise as one nation, one people, and one destiny. Bet on Nigeria.”

The President’s remarks are seen as an attempt to quell mounting concerns over alleged bias and to reinforce public confidence in his government’s developmental blueprint.
