ABUJA, NIGERIA — The iNews Times reports that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the University of Maiduguri will be renamed Muhammadu Buhari University in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu made the announcement on Thursday during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Abuja, convened to mourn the former Head of State and two-term civilian president, who died earlier this week.
The president described the decision as a gesture of national appreciation for Buhari’s decades of service to Nigeria, highlighting his military legacy, democratic contributions, and deep ties to the North-East region.
Details regarding the formal adoption of the new name and its implementation by the Federal Ministry of Education are expected to be made public in the coming days.
