‎Tinubu Draws the Line: Reforms Are Here to Stay

‎…Tinubu further warned against intimidation, excessive use of force or any conduct that could disenfranchise voters

‎‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | President Bola Tinubu on Friday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to leverage the forthcoming six area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as the bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State, to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process.

‎He also appealed to voters, security agencies and INEC officials to maintain order and professionalism during Saturday’s polls.

‎INEC is set to conduct elections across the six area councils of the FCT, alongside the bye-elections in the affected constituencies in Rivers and Kano states.

‎The President encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and cast their ballots without fear, stressing that democracy flourishes in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance and mutual respect.

‎He called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid violence, provocative rhetoric and any actions capable of undermining the credibility of the elections.

‎Tinubu further warned against intimidation, excessive use of force or any conduct that could disenfranchise voters or weaken public trust, noting that security personnel are deployed to safeguard lives, property and the integrity of the ballot.

‎He tasked INEC with taking all necessary steps to strengthen voter confidence through timely accreditation, seamless voting, accurate collation and prompt transmission of results, in line with the 2026 Electoral Act.

‎Assuring Nigerians of his administration’s commitment, the President said the Federal Government would continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair and credible elections.

‎He commended residents of the FCT, Kano and Rivers for their civic engagement, expressing confidence that the polls would reflect the people’s will and advance the nation’s democratic progress.
