Jos, Nigeria — The iNews Times, troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and arrested three alleged informants during a security operation in Plateau State.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X.
According to the post, the troops, drawn from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and operating under the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, acted on intelligence reports of kidnapping activities in Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area, in the early hours of Monday.
The soldiers were said to have responded swiftly to distress calls from residents and made contact with the suspected kidnappers during the operation, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect.
“Items recovered from the suspect included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” Makama stated.
He added that the neutralised suspect was later identified as a resident of the community, who allegedly collaborated with the kidnapping gang from within the area.
During the operation, troops also arrested three individuals suspected to be informants who provided logistical support and intelligence to the kidnappers.
The arrested suspects, along with the recovered arms and ammunition, are currently in custody, while follow-up operations have been launched to track down other members of the gang who reportedly fled the scene.
The Nigerian military has reassured residents of Plateau State of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.
