…troops working alongside vigilantes rescued nine kidnapped individuals in Kogi and Kwara States.

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Nigerian Army troops have rescued 11 kidnapped victims and recovered arms and other items during coordinated operations across the Northwest and North-Central regions.

A source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the successes were achieved under Operations Fansan Yamma, MESA, Enduring Peace (OPEP), and Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

The source explained that under Operation Fansan Yamma, troops rescued two truck drivers abducted along the Magami–Gusau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara. The kidnappers were forced to abandon the victims during a hot pursuit by the troops along their escape routes.

“In Sokoto State, an AK-47 rifle was recovered from farmland at Garin Hilo village, Sabon Birni LGA, following actionable intelligence from local residents,” the source added.

Under Operation MESA, troops working alongside vigilantes rescued nine kidnapped individuals in Kogi and Kwara States. Three farmers abducted in Ojiwo Egume community, Dekina LGA, Kogi, were rescued along with a motorcycle. Additionally, six villagers kidnapped in Ikosin village, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara, were freed after a pursuit that forced their captors to flee and abandon two motorcycles.

Efforts are ongoing to rescue four other victims abducted at Owa Onire in Ifelodun LGA during a road project.

The source also stated that operations in Taraba have been temporarily suspended to restore peace and order in affected areas, alongside continued efforts in other parts of the country.
