ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted an armed robbery attempt on the Abuja–Kaduna Highway after responding swiftly to a distress call during a routine patrol.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar, said the soldiers were alerted to an ongoing robbery at Nasarawan Doka and immediately moved to the scene, where they engaged the criminals and neutralised the threat.

According to the statement, one suspect identified as Kabiru Zayyanu was arrested after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg during the encounter. He was promptly taken to Doka General Hospital for first aid, while other members of the gang fled the area.

The troops carried out a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects but made no further contact. Umar noted that no casualties or abductions were recorded during the operation, adding that the arrested suspect would be handed over to the appropriate security agency after investigations.

Umar further said the troops continue to maintain a strong security presence in the area to ensure safety, reassuring the public of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property while urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
