‎U.S. Government Raises Alarm Over Potential Terror Attack in Nigeria

‎…“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens of a possible terrorist threat against U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria.

‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The United States (U.S) Embassy in Nigeria has issued a warning about a potential terrorist threat targeting American facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in the country.

‎In a security advisory posted on its website on Monday, the United States embassy said the notice was meant to alert American citizens in Nigeria to possible risks and urged them to take extra precautions when visiting U.S. diplomatic offices and related institutions.

‎The advisory called on United States nationals to remain highly vigilant when travelling to the embassy in Abuja, the consulate in Lagos, and schools linked to the United States.

‎“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs United States citizens of a possible terrorist threat against United States facilities and affiliated schools in Nigeria.

‎“The Embassy recommends that United States citizens take additional precautions when travelling to their Embassy, the Consulate General in Lagos, and United States affiliated schools, including varying travel times and routes,” the statement said.

‎The embassy also advised Americans to avoid predictable routines, change their travel schedules and routes when possible, and ensure their mobile phones remain charged in case of emergencies.

‎However, the mission did not disclose the source of the suspected threat.

‎The alert in Nigeria comes amid a broader global security warning issued by the United States following attacks by Washington and Israel on Iran, which Tehran has responded to with missile and drone strikes targeting United States allied countries in the Middle East.

‎It also comes after protests in Lagos and some northern states by members of the Islamic Movement, who condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.

‎Meanwhile, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader, was also reported to have died from injuries sustained during the recent United States and Israeli strikes on their residence in Tehran.

‎The development follows an earlier directive by President Donald Trump, who ordered United States airstrikes in Nigeria on Christmas Day, saying the operation targeted jihadist groups.
