“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from a position of strength” – Akwa Ibom Governor
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has shed more light on his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), iNews Times reports.
According to Governor Eno, his move to the APC is driven by his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and a desire to align Akwa Ibom State with the federal government’s policies.
Governor Eno emphasized that joining the APC would enable Akwa Ibom State to tap into the federal government’s development initiatives, citing the need to align the state with the center. “We are joining the APC out of a need to align our state with the center,” he stated.
This strategic move, he believes, will attract more developmental benefits to the state.
The governor stressed that his decision to join the APC is not driven by political survival or weakness but rather a desire to strengthen the state’s position.
“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from a position of strength and alive,” he declared.
Governor Eno assured Akwa Ibom citizens that his commitment to serving the people remains unwavering, regardless of party affiliations.
The iNews Times learnt that Governor Eno’s defection came after three months of consultations with stakeholders across the state.
The governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for their support throughout his tenure, noting that it was time for a “progressive move” in the best interest of Akwa Ibom State.
The governor’s move marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, ending the PDP’s 26-year dominance in the state.
The defection ceremony drew prominent APC leaders, including Governors Hope Uzodimma and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
With this new development, the state is expected to experience a major political realignment, iNews Times reports.
