…During the divorce proceedings, the woman told the court that she would not leave the house
A Shari’a court sitting in Kaduna has confirmed the divorce of a couple after the husband, Abdulrazak Yunusa, pronounced his divorce to the woman three times, iNews Times reports.
It was however gathered that the wife, Latinate Sanusi, a mother of six, has refused to vacate the marital home, citing her responsibility to care for their daughters.
During the court proceedings, the woman told the court that she would not leave the house, stating, “My children are all girls, and I intend to stay so that I can take care of them; after all, he doesn’t provide most of their needs.”
In contrast, Yunusa claimed that he takes care of his family and that his decision to divorce Sanusi was due to her lack of submission.
The judge, Kabir Muhammad, confirmed the divorce, noting that there was no longer a marital relationship between the couple.
While the court confirmed the divorce, Muhammad stated that the issue of child custody could be addressed in a separate case, saying, “What is before me is a suit on confirmation of divorce; the issue of child custody can be filed as a fresh case.”
