BORNO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Wednesday extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, as well as families of victims of the recent multiple bomb blasts in Maiduguri that left over 23 people dead.
Buni, who is currently in Mecca for the lesser Hajj (Umrah), was represented during a condolence visit to the Borno State capital by his deputy, Idi Gubana.
The governor also expressed sympathy for those injured in the attacks, lamenting that innocent citizens going about their daily routines had fallen victim to senseless violence.
In a message delivered by his deputy, Buni described the incident as tragic and deeply unfortunate, noting that Yobe State shares in Borno’s grief. He said it was heartbreaking that law-abiding citizens had become victims of such violence.
He urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
Reaffirming the strong ties between the two states, Buni noted that the tragedy highlights their shared realities. He emphasized that whatever affects Borno equally impacts Yobe.
While commending the Federal Government and security operatives for ongoing efforts to restore peace in the North-East, the governor said the recent attacks should not derail the progress already made.
As part of efforts to support those affected, the Yobe State Government announced a donation of N10 million to assist victims’ families.
In response, Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, expressed appreciation to the Yobe delegation for their solidarity and support.
He noted that both states continue to grapple with similar security challenges, especially amid ongoing military operations against insurgents, which sometimes lead to their movement into urban areas using improvised explosive devices.
Kadafur called for sustained collaboration between both states and their citizens to tackle the recurring attacks, urging continued support for security agencies in finding lasting solutions.
He also encouraged residents to remain united, intensify prayers, and work collectively towards restoring peace in the region.
The Yobe delegation included top government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and other aides.
