Soludo approves N2.8bn for Cohort 2 of 1Youth 2Skills Scheme as Contractors receive prompt payments

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times reports that the 15th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) under the watchful eyes of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has approved N2,835,150,000 for Cohort 2 Empowerment under the 1Youth, 2Skills Scheme.

The Council which met at the Light House Awka, reviewed the success of Cohort 1 of the Soludo administration’s flagship youth empowerment program, where 7,163 out of 11,000 trainees excelled in 65 skill areas.

Additionally, 235 Umuboi (apprentices) from the Local Enterprise Development of 21 local governments in the state were successful, with over 1,000 millionaires emerging from the graduates.

Funds for the empowerment of Cohort 2 were approved, as they are ready for commissioning.

A statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor and made available to newsmen in Awka, said N2,835,150,000 covers 1Youth 2Skills Business Financing Scheme, 1Youth 2Skills Cooperatives Start-up, Graduation and Certification, 1Youth 2Skills Mentorship Scheme and Consolation to the Deceased Family.

The breakdown goes as follows: “1Youth 2Skills Business Financing Scheme, N2,588,520,000; 1Youth, 2Skills Cooperatives Start-up, N141,900,000; Graduation and Certification, N73,230,000; 1Youth, 2Skills Mentorship Scheme, N31,000,000 and Consolation to the Deceased Family, N500,000.”

According to Mefor, the Council reaffirmed the state’s contractor payment system, ensuring that no contractor is owed, a policy which has been in place since the inception of the Soludo Government over three years ago.

He noted that the Council approved the Awka City Park Project, which will provide environmental, aesthetic, and recreational benefits to the Awka capital city, along with social, health, and economic benefits. Work on the project is set to begin without delay.
