…APC harassing and intimidating opposition party members – Aregbesola

ILORIN, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed strong confidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take over the leadership of Nigeria from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Aregbesola made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Ilorin, shortly after commissioning the state secretariat of the ADC along Basin Road.

He accused the APC of resorting to intimidation and harassment of opposition members across the country, describing the move as a sign of weakness and fear of impending defeat.

“If APC is confident of its strength, it won’t be so hyped and charged as to be hounding and hunting opposition all over the place,” Aregbesola said.

“They are harassing and intimidating every one of our members – not just our leaders, but ordinary members nationwide, from Lagos to Kebbi to Kaduna.”

The former governor, who once served as Minister of Interior under the APC-led administration, argued that the ruling party’s conduct reflects declining popularity among Nigerians.

“If indeed they are confident of the strength they are showcasing, one would expect them to be calm, but the reverse is the case,” he continued. “They themselves know that they are not popular, and the party that will harvest their unpopularity is the ADC.”

Aregbesola, who recently rejoined active politics under the ADC platform, maintained that his new party is building a credible alternative to the APC and is poised to emerge victorious in 2027.

“Regardless of the grandstanding, by the grace of God, ADC will take over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria and in most of the states,” he affirmed.

The event drew party supporters and stakeholders from across Kwara and neighbouring states, as Aregbesola urged members to remain focused on grassroots mobilisation and integrity-driven leadership.

As the 2027 elections approach, political analysts say Aregbesola’s defection and bold statements could signal a growing realignment among disenchanted former APC loyalists seeking a fresh political platform.
