Peter Obi meets Afenifere leaders

ILE-IFE, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | In what appears to be part of ongoing high-level consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has met with the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, follows closely on the heels of Obi’s recent visits to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Olubadan designate, further fueling speculations about his political intentions for the next general election.

Writing on his official X handle, Obi described the interaction with the Afenifere leadership as “fruitful,” noting that discussions touched on some of Nigeria’s most pressing national challenges.

“We had a useful meeting and discussed extensively about the current situation in our country, especially in the critical areas of education, health, and pulling people out of poverty,” Obi stated.

He praised Afenifere for its longstanding advocacy on national cohesion and social justice, lauding the group’s resilience and principled stance.

“I sincerely thank them for their courage for always standing out for fearless justice and the unity of our country, and urge them not to relent,” he added.

Obi emphasized his commitment to building an inclusive Nigeria, reiterating his belief in a nation where no group is marginalized.

“I remain committed to an all-inclusive, united Nigeria where no part will be left behind. A New Nigeria is POssible,” he declared.

Oba Oladipo Olaitan, who also serves as a leader within the broader coalition of ethnic nationalities including PANDEF and the Middle Belt Forum, has been a strong advocate for restructuring and inclusive governance, an agenda that closely aligns with Obi’s public stance in recent years.

As the 2027 political landscape begins to take shape, Obi’s latest round of engagements with influential regional leaders suggests a strategic approach to coalition-building across Nigeria’s diverse power blocs.
