London, United Kingdom – The iNews Times reports that the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday arrived in London to receive the body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82.
Buhari, Nigeria’s military ruler turned democratically elected leader, passed away in a London clinic after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. His death has drawn an outpouring of condolences from across the globe.
Leading a high-powered government delegation, Shettima and Gbajabiamila touched down in the British capital in the early hours of Monday.
The delegation was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, alongside other top officials.
“The Nigerian government is here to honour a man whose imprint on the country’s political history is indelible,” a senior government official in the delegation told reporters in London.
Formal arrangements for the repatriation of Buhari’s remains are expected to be concluded within days, ahead of official state burial rites in Abuja, The iNews Times reports.
