Several persons are feared dead and many others injured following a deadly attack by suspected herdsmen on Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, iNews Times reports.

The attackers stormed the community around 6 pm on Thursday, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze.

An Eyewitness said the attack persisted for a considerable period without any security intervention, forcing residents to flee for their lives.

The community, located just a few minutes from Makurdi, was thrown into chaos as the herdsmen wreaked havoc on homes and properties.

Details of the attack are still emerging, but sources indicate that several people have lost their lives, while many others sustained injuries.

The attack has sparked fear and panic among residents, who are calling for urgent security response to prevent further attacks.

The Benue State government is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the damage and casualties.
