…highlights the critical role of discipline and professionalism in safeguarding lives.
AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE — The iNews Times | The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has raised concerns over a “disturbing decline” in discipline and professionalism among some of its officers, urging a recommitment to integrity and ethical conduct in public service. The call was made by FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, during a sensitisation visit to the Anambra State Command on Tuesday.
Represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Winifred Chukwurah, Commandant of the FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu State, Mohammed said the deployment of senior officers to field commands was a strategic intervention aimed at addressing operational challenges and strengthening leadership accountability.
Addressing Decline in FRSC Discipline and Professionalism
Mohammed expressed concern over reports of misconduct, extortion, abuse of authority, and reckless enforcement behaviour in certain commands, warning that such acts contradict the core values of the FRSC and erode public trust. “These actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” he emphasised, highlighting the critical role of FRSC discipline and professionalism in safeguarding lives and maintaining public confidence.
He explained that senior officers deployed to commands would serve as mentors and standard-bearers, guiding personnel, reinforcing discipline, and ensuring professionalism in all operations. “Discipline protects the reputation of the Corps, while professionalism is mandatory, not optional,” Mohammed stated.
The Corps Marshal also warned that extortion, harassment, and abuse of authority violate the oath sworn by officers, and that leadership accountability rests heavily on commanding officers and supervisors. He urged officers to actively supervise subordinates, address misconduct promptly, and lead by example, noting that silence in the face of wrongdoing amounts to complicity.
Encouraging Excellence and Restoring Public Trust
Mohammed assured officers that commendable conduct would be rewarded, while violations would face fair and firm sanctions. He urged all personnel to embrace the sensitisation exercise as an opportunity to restore FRSC discipline and professionalism, rebuild public trust, and recommit to excellence in service.
Earlier, Anambra State Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, also implored officers to take the Corps Marshal’s charge seriously, reinforcing the urgency of addressing lapses in discipline and conduct.
