…APC top figures from the national, zonal, state and ward levels are also set to participate in the gathering, where new party leaders will be elected.
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The All Progressive Congress (APC) is set to host President Bola Tinubu, members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and 8,453 delegates from across Nigeria at its National Convention scheduled to hold Friday and Saturday in Abuja.
APC top figures from the national, zonal, state and ward levels are also set to participate in the gathering, where new party leaders will be elected.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s media sub-committee, disclosed this during a world press briefing at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja on Thursday.
Other dignitaries of APC expected at the event include Hannatu Musawa, Festus Keyamo, Sunday Dare and Bayo Onanuga, among other party stakeholders.
Idris noted that the convention theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s identity, achievements and future direction. He explained that the event will bring together delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy discussions, leadership elections and the transition to a new set of party executives.
He added that the APC convention marks a significant milestone for the party, highlighting its progress under Tinubu’s leadership and reinforcing the “Renewed Hope Agenda” as a guide for governance and development.
Also speaking, Chairman of the convention’s central coordinating committee and former Katsina State governor, Aminu Masari, said preparations were complete, with all committees satisfied and no known litigation threatening the exercise. He reiterated that party positions were allocated based on zoning in line with federal character principles.
Despite this, some members have raised concerns over alleged exclusion. Party chieftain Fubara Dagogo has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging his omission from the South-South Zonal Congress, while another member, Paul Oyiborume, has made similar claims. Dagogo, however, said he would first explore internal party mechanisms rather than seek an injunction to halt the convention.
Meanwhile, Taraba State Governor and Chairman of the Convention Appeals Committee, Agbu Kefas, expressed confidence that the exercise would be smooth, noting that adequate measures are in place to address any unexpected issues.
Ahead of the event, the Federal Government directed civil servants working at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work remotely on Friday due to road closures around the venue, Eagle Square. The directive, issued by Abdul Garba on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service, cited security and logistical arrangements for the convention.
The build-up to the convention has also triggered a surge in hotel bookings across Abuja, with major facilities such as Transcorp Hilton, NICON Luxury Hotel and others fully occupied, as delegates and party supporters flood the capital for the high-profile gathering.
