Kayode-Egbetokun: Anambra N100m Transfer Controversy: Soludo’s Aide Insists Payment Was Not State-Linked

…the Anambra N100m transfer controversy continues to dominate public discourse.

AWKA, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that public concern is mounting over an alleged Anambra N100m transfer controversy involving funds said to have been mistakenly transferred into the bank account of Victor Egbetokun, reportedly the son of former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The development, which has triggered widespread debate across Anambra State, follows reports that the sum of N100 million was transferred in four tranches of N25 million each.

During a television interview, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged that the recipient confirmed receiving the funds and was advised to contact his bank for a reversal, which was reportedly carried out.

Despite the reported refund, the Anambra N100m transfer controversy has continued to generate reactions among residents, with many expressing concern about financial controls and transparency in the management of public funds.

Some commentators questioned how such a transfer could occur and why the funds were reportedly routed to an individual with no known official dealings with the state.

A public affairs analyst, Kingsley Ubani, said the Anambra N100m transfer controversy raises critical questions regarding approval processes and internal safeguards within government financial systems.

He argued that residents deserve clarity on how the transaction occurred and whether similar errors may have happened previously without public knowledge.

Another resident, Peter Ndukaike, expressed worry over the delay in official clarification, suggesting that silence surrounding the Anambra N100m transfer controversy had intensified public suspicion.

He noted that the incident could undermine public confidence if not transparently addressed.

Journalist Fisayo Soyombo also weighed in on the issue, questioning the circumstances surrounding the transfer and the implications of security-related funds allegedly being paid into a private account.

Responding to the growing debate, the Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, dismissed claims linking the payment to the state government.

According to him, the Anambra N100m transfer controversy had been resolved long before it surfaced publicly, insisting that the transaction did not originate from the Anambra State Government.

He described the development as an honest banking error that had already been corrected, stressing that the governor is widely recognised for prudent financial management.

Aburime maintained that the state government had no involvement in the transfer and urged the public to disregard speculation surrounding the matter.

Nevertheless, the Anambra N100m transfer controversy continues to dominate public discourse, with residents and observers calling for greater transparency and stronger safeguards to prevent future incidents involving public funds.
