Anambra Police Community Policing Strengthened Through Bank Partnership, Outreach to Students

…says the Anambra Police Community Policing framework places strong emphasis on preventive strategies.

AWKA, Nigeria – The iNews Times | The Anambra Police Community Policing initiative received a major boost as the Anambra State Police Command partnered with Premium Trust Bank to deepen security advocacy and strengthen community engagement across the state.

The collaboration, described as strategic and forward-looking, underscores the Command’s renewed commitment to improving security service delivery while promoting a people-friendly policing model rooted in trust, partnership, and grassroots participation.

Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the initiative is specifically designed to foster a culture of security consciousness among young people and members of the wider community.

According to Ikenga, the Command conducted a security advocacy visit to selected schools across the state, where officers engaged students and staff in interactive sessions focused on safety awareness, crime prevention, and the importance of cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

The engagement sessions, he noted, were structured to educate students about personal security responsibility, the dangers of cultism and other social vices, and the need for timely information-sharing with security authorities. The outreach also reinforced the Police Command’s belief that sustainable security begins with informed and vigilant citizens.

He explained that the Anambra Police Community Policing framework places strong emphasis on preventive strategies rather than reactive enforcement, adding that schools remain critical platforms for shaping responsible citizenship and strengthening early awareness against crime.

Beyond the school visits, the Command also extended alms to members of the public as part of its humanitarian outreach component. This gesture, according to the statement, highlights the Police’s dedication not only to law enforcement duties but also to the welfare and well-being of the community it serves.

The humanitarian effort was described as a reflection of modern policing standards, where law enforcement agencies combine firmness with compassion in order to build sustainable public trust.

“These activities highlight the Command’s resolve to strengthen public trust, promote community policing, and build a safer and more inclusive society,” Ikenga stated.

Observers say the partnership with Premium Trust Bank signals growing private sector involvement in security advocacy and social responsibility efforts in Anambra State. The collaboration is seen as part of a broader effort to bridge the gap between law enforcement institutions and the communities they protect.

In attendance at the event were ASP Agaba Alexander, the Anambra Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) Coordinator, as well as the representative of Premium Trust Bank, Ms. Stella Umezinwa, and her entourage.

The presence of the POCACOV Coordinator further reinforced the anti-cultism advocacy message delivered during the school visits. The initiative aligns with ongoing campaigns by the Command to discourage youth involvement in cult-related activities and other crimes.

Security analysts note that community-oriented strategies such as the Anambra Police Community Policing model are increasingly being adopted across Nigeria as law enforcement agencies seek to rebuild public confidence and improve intelligence gathering through closer community relationships.

By integrating educational outreach, humanitarian gestures, and private sector collaboration, the Anambra State Police Command appears to be positioning itself as a proactive institution focused on both prevention and partnership.

The Command reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state. It also reassured Ndi Anambra that it will continue to maintain a people-friendly approach while upholding professionalism and operational efficiency.

“The Anambra State Police Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining a people-friendly approach to policing,” Ikenga stressed.

As security challenges evolve, initiatives anchored on awareness, cooperation, and stakeholder engagement are expected to play a vital role in sustaining peace and stability across communities in Anambra State.

The latest collaboration further demonstrates that effective security management is no longer the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies but a shared obligation requiring the participation of financial institutions, educational bodies, civil society, and citizens alike.

With this renewed push under the Anambra Police Community Policing strategy, stakeholders express optimism that stronger collaboration and community trust will translate into improved safety outcomes across the state.
