ASATU Women Wing Disowns President Over Alleged Misappropriation of Funds

ASATU Women Wing President

…as Commissioner removes president from ASATU women wing Whatsapp platform.

The iNews Times reports that there’s tension in Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU women wing following a vote of no confidence passed on their president, Mrs Veronica Okaro, during their monthly meeting held in Awka.

Although the association cited Okaro’s “constant misappropriation of funds” as reason for the development, but sources said her rejection might not be unconnected to her nomination as running mate to Chief George Moghalu, Labour Party gubernatorial Candidate,

According to the source, her nomination as the LP running mate did not go down well with the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo .

“The Commissioner, on receiving the information that Mrs Okaro had been nominated by LP, rushed to the ASATU women wing Whatsapp platform and removed her from the forum.

“How do you explain removing the President of an association from the platform because she is no longer supporting Prof Soludo and APGA?” the source queried.

But in a statement by media aide to the Commissioner, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the group explained that the group’s decision to disown the President was occasioned by financial mismanagement.

It added that Okaro had refused to step down from her duties as ASATU Women Wing president, even after declaring to run for the post of a deputy governor in another political party.

The statement reads, “Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU women wing, has today passed a vote of no confidence on their president, Mrs Veronica Okaro, during their monthly meeting held in Awka.

“According to the association, the vote was necessary because of the said president’s constant misappropriation of funds.

“The group while distancing themselves from Mrs Okaro, lamented that the previous leadership, despite her financial mismanagement , had refused to step down from her duties, especially after declaring to run for the post of a deputy governor in another political party which they all saw on the internet.

“However, they pledged their allegiances to the government of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo and assured of putting in the extra effort in making sure that their wards and polling units were delivered to APGA in the coming election.

“The group unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo stating that the massive developments going on simultaneously in the state is what they ordered for and are proud of his giant strides.

“Present at the meeting were the state executives, local government coordinators and their representatives, and the zonal coordinators.”
