…Atiku stressed that opposition supporters are stronger when united.
ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned supporters of opposition figures against engaging in insults, saying such actions only play into the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post on X on Tuesday, he said anyone who attacks either Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate, or himself does not have the interests of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the opposition coalition, or Nigerians at heart.
He described the infighting among ADC supporters as a “civil war” that serves only to strengthen the APC, which he referred to as “urban bandits” determined to preserve what he called a “satanic status quo.”
He was responding to a post by an X user, Novie Everest, who accused his supporters of insulting Obi while expecting the former vice president to be spared criticism.
“Atiku’s people want to insult Peter Obi without Atiku getting the heat back. Maybe they feel Atiku deserves respect and Peter Obi does not,” the user wrote.
In his reply, Atiku stressed that opposition supporters are stronger when united.
“Dear Everest, anyone who insults Obi or Myself does not mean well for the leaders, the coalition ADC, or for Nigeria and Nigerians. The only people who benefit from such a civil war are the APC urban bandits who want to maintain the satanic status quo. We are better together,” he said.
Atiku and Obi are both members of the ADC, an opposition alliance seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. However, supporters of both leaders have frequently clashed over who should emerge as the coalition’s presidential candidate and running mate, with some of Obi’s supporters threatening to withdraw support if he accepts a vice-presidential slot.
