‎Bandits Attack Claims 33 Lives in Kebbi

‎…residents tried to resist the bandits invasion, leading to a confrontation during which 33 persons lost their lives.

‎‎KEBBI, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Bandits have killed 33 people in an attack on Bui District in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed.

‎The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, noting that the attack occurred on Wednesday.

‎According to him, armed men believed to be members of the Lakurawa group stormed the district in what appeared to be an attempt to rustle cattle. Preliminary findings suggest the bandits reportedly crossed into the area from Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

‎Usman explained that residents of Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal and Dan Mai Ago mobilised to resist the invasion, leading to a confrontation during which 33 persons lost their lives.

‎He said the police, working alongside the military and other security agencies, have strengthened security in the affected communities. Additional personnel and operational resources have been deployed, while sustained patrols are underway to restore calm and forestall further attacks.

‎The command, he added, has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Arewa community.

‎Usman stressed that attacks involving heavily armed criminal groups require coordinated security responses and urged residents to report suspicious movements through appropriate channels.

‎He cautioned members of the public against confronting armed criminals, warning that such actions endanger lives and property.

‎The police spokesman further stated that targeted operations are ongoing to track down those responsible and to enhance early warning systems in vulnerable communities across the state.

‎The development comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Kebbi and neighbouring states, following reports of bandits carrying out raids, kidnappings and acts of extortion in rural areas.
