…says the state govt remains resolute in ensuring that perpetrators of child abuse face the full weight of the law.
Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that an alleged Child Abuse case involving a female student of Community Secondary School, Agulu Awka, has drawn government attention, with authorities insisting that the suspect be prosecuted to ensure justice and deterrence.
The Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Anambra State Commissioner for Education, said the disturbing child abuse incident must be taken before a court of competent jurisdiction for proper determination.
The suspect, Mrs Ede Osinachi from Ohafia in Ebonyi State, is currently under investigation for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on the student, Miss Ama Miracle, who was reportedly serving as her househelp, using a hot electric iron.
Addressing the suspect in her office, the Commissioner who directed that the victim, who had earlier been sent to her people, be returned to Awka, stressed that prosecuting the child abuse case would serve as a strong warning to individuals involved in similar acts.
She reiterated the commitment of Chukwuma Soludo to safeguarding the welfare and protection of every child residing in Anambra State.
According to her, the state government remains resolute in ensuring that perpetrators of child abuse face the full weight of the law.
“The interest of Mr Governor in the matter is to ensure that every child in Anambra State school is adequately protected from abuse,” the commissioner stated.
She further insisted that arraigning the suspect would reinforce government’s zero tolerance for child abuse and related violations against minors.
“The suspect must be arraigned before the court to serve as deterrent to others who may have the intention of engaging in similar acts,” Chuma-Udeh added.
The incident has sparked renewed calls from child rights advocates and education stakeholders for stronger monitoring of domestic environments where minors are placed as househelps, as well as improved enforcement of child protection laws.
