Community in Delta was thrown into shock as Son Allegedly Sets Father on Fire

…Community sources disclosed that the suspect was alleged to have taken a hard drug commonly known as “Colorado” before the attack.

DELTA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Oghior Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into mourning on Wednesday as tragedy struck, when a young man identified as Saturday Okutu allegedly set his aged father, Pa Chicago Okutu, ablaze while reportedly under the influence of drugs.

Eyewitnesses said the incident followed a violent altercation involving the suspect, who was alleged to have taken a hard drug commonly known as “Colorado” before the attack. Community sources disclosed that the confrontation escalated into physical violence, after which the suspect allegedly ignited the house, resulting in the death of the aged man.

The incident has left residents of the community in deep shock and mourning, while also reigniting concerns over the growing menace of hard drug abuse among youths in rural communities.

Speaking on the development, the immediate past President-General of Oghior Community, Moses Uchere, Esq., condemned the act and called for urgent measures to curb drug abuse, stressing the need for intensified public awareness to prevent similar tragedies.

It was also gathered that community leaders have commenced preliminary investigations as authorities work to establish full details surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a reaction from the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful, as he had yet to respond to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
