DSS shoot policeman in Anambra

…the DSS operatives were stopped at a Police checkpoint.

The iNews Times reports that tragedy has occured in Uli in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State as persons suspected to be operatives of Department of State Security (DSS) have allegedly shot dead a police Inspector.

The policeman, Inspector Bello Abdulahi drafted to Uli from Mopol 29 was said to be doing his lawful duty when he saw a Sienna mini bus driving against traffic at a spot close to a service station.

He was said to have flagged down the Sienna mini bus for routine security check which an eye witness noted didn’t go down well with the occupants of the bus.

An eye witness who pleaded for anonymity claimed that in the cause of insisting on carrying out his duty, tempers rose, loud arguments were heard and then shooting which made everyone around the area scampered for safety.

He claimed that the policeman was later discovered to have been shot dead by occupants of the Sienna mini bus who immediately ran away from the scene.

The victim according to another source was rushed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi where he was confirmed dead.

In a reaction, the Police Public Realtions Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) has sued for calm following the shooting incident.

In a statement made available to journalists, the PPRO said, “The Anambra State Police Command has sued for calm following a report of a distressing incident that occurred in the late hours of June 24, 2025 at the Police Observation Point along Onitsha/Owerri Expressway by Danaks Fuel Station where a Police Mobile Force (PMF) Operative was mistakenly fatally shot by a friendly Force.

“The armed Security Operatives, in black attire, were said to have emerged from an unmarked Toyota Sienna vehicle, sparking suspicion and leading to an exchange of fire.

“Meanwhile, the situation is under control and the Case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka for further investigation.”
