Fayose Releases Documents Alleging Makinde Collected N50bn Emergency Funds

…Fayose said he released the documents to enable Nigerians to judge for themselves.

Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has released documents he claims prove that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, received a total of N50 billion from the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Fayose, the funds were approved as emergency support following the deadly explosion that rocked parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in January 2024.

Governor Makinde had earlier denied receiving such an amount and publicly challenged Fayose to provide documentary evidence to substantiate the allegation.

In response, Fayose on Saturday made public a set of documents which he said confirmed the release of the funds, alleging that only N4.5 billion was disbursed to victims affected by the explosion.

He further alleged that the remaining funds were diverted to support what he described as Governor Makinde’s presidential ambition.

In a statement personally signed by him, Fayose said he released the documents to enable Nigerians to judge for themselves whether the Oyo State Government had been transparent in its handling of the funds.

Fayose also challenged Governor Makinde to seek legal redress if he believed the claims were false, insisting that there were official records showing that additional financial support sent to Oyo State by the Tinubu administration was neither disclosed nor properly accounted for.

The former governor further claimed that he is in possession of documents detailing the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, which he said differs from figures publicly announced by the state government.

According to the former governor, he remains confident in his claims and would not make such allegations without concrete evidence, adding that he still has more documents which may be released at a later time if necessary.

“Meanwhile, only N4.5bn was released to victims of the Ibadan Explosion. Rather, he diverted this fund and many others to his presidential ambition, which is the reason for the crisis in the PDP and his attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government,” Fayose said.

“Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now. My name is still Ayo Fayose; I don’t say what I can’t prove.”
