LAGOS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | On Monday afternoon, a fire engulfed an open-air recycling site in Abule Egba, Lagos, causing damage to nearby structures before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving an emergency call around 1:08 p.m., prompting a swift response from teams at the Agege and Abesan fire stations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the inferno originated from a local recycling area operated by some individuals and later spread to a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church. One adult woman reportedly suffered shock but was attended to promptly and stabilised by emergency personnel. Thankfully, no lives were lost.
Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the blaze had been fully extinguished. She added that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and urged residents to strictly follow fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
