Former President Muhammadu Buhari

…details surrounding the cause of Buhari’s death have not yet been disclosed.

London – The iNews Times reports that the retired Nigerian Army Major General and former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has passed away at the age of 82.

His former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed the news in a terse statement on Sunday afternoon, reporting that Buhari died in a clinic in London. The statement read:

“The family of the former president has announced the passing of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Further details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been disclosed by the family or Nigerian government.

The former president’s passing closes a significant chapter in Nigeria’s history–spanning eras of military rule, political upheaval, and democratic transition.

At 82, he leaves behind a complex legacy–and a nation reflecting on what defined his leadership: reforms on corruption, economic turbulence, intensified security challenges, and the enduring question of legacy.
