…says the NSCDC Easter deployment is not merely a routine exercise but a proactive strategy to deter crime.

Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times | The NSCDC Easter deployment in Anambra has gathered momentum as the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) mobilised 991 personnel across the state to ensure the safety of residents and the protection of critical national assets before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.

The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Okadigbo Edwin, reaffirming the Corps’ determination to provide watertight security throughout the festive period. According to the statement, the large-scale NSCDC Easter deployment involves officers, men, and operational assets positioned strategically for intensive and proactive visibility patrols.

Commandant Maku ordered the deployment of 991 officers and other operational resources to cover key locations across Anambra. Areas mapped out for patrol include worship centres, recreational centres, vulnerable flashpoints, banks and other financial institutions, government facilities, as well as critical national, state, and local government infrastructure.

The Command stressed that the existing security architecture already in place would not only be sustained but strengthened. The NSCDC, he noted, would collaborate closely with other security agencies to provide continuous coverage and maintain law and order throughout the Easter festivities.

“All officers and men deployed for this assignment must be properly supervised to ensure professionalism and courtesy to law-abiding citizens, but firm and ruthless to criminal elements who might want to take advantage of the festive period to perpetrate their unholy and criminal acts,” the Commandant stressed.

The NSCDC Easter deployment, he explained, is not merely a routine exercise but a proactive strategy to deter crime, reassure the public, and safeguard vital infrastructure that could be targeted during periods of increased movement and celebration.

Commandant Maku issued a strong warning to vandals, miscreants, hoodlums, and other disgruntled elements to steer clear of critical national assets and infrastructure. He made it clear that the Corps would take decisive and tough action against anyone caught vandalising public or private property.

He further directed all VIP orderlies attached to principals and public office holders to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Rules of Engagement, and Service Orders while on duty. According to him, discipline and strict compliance with operational guidelines are essential to maintaining professionalism during the busy festive period.

The Commandant also used the opportunity to felicitate with Christians in Anambra State and across Nigeria as they commemorate one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar, the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He appreciated residents for their continued cooperation and support for the NSCDC and other security agencies operating in the state.

He called on citizens to remain security-conscious and vigilant at all times, noting that effective security is a shared responsibility between law enforcement agencies and members of the public. Residents were urged to promptly report any suspicious movement, unusual gathering, or untoward incident in their locality.

To ensure swift response, the Command provided emergency contact numbers for direct communication with the Corps: 08035771835, 08036172748, 08036789255, and 07049388100. The public was encouraged to make use of these lines whenever necessary.

Security analysts observe that festive periods such as Easter often come with heightened risks, including petty theft, vandalism, and attacks on unprotected infrastructure. The NSCDC Easter deployment of nearly 1,000 personnel signals a firm readiness by the Anambra Command to forestall such threats and maintain peace across urban and rural communities alike.

With increased traffic to churches, recreational centres, and commercial hubs expected during the celebrations, the visibility patrol strategy is designed to boost public confidence while discouraging criminal opportunists.

As Easter activities unfold, residents of Anambra can expect an enhanced security presence in major towns and strategic points, reflecting the Corps’ commitment to ensuring that celebrations proceed without disruption.

The Anambra NSCDC Command reiterated that it remains steadfast in its mandate to protect lives and property, safeguard critical infrastructure, and support other security agencies in maintaining public order.

As preparations peak for the Easter festivities, the message from the Corps is clear: while law-abiding citizens are free to celebrate in peace, individuals intent on vandalism or criminality will face the full weight of the law.
