Nigeria Police take custody of FRSC Murder suspect

…the arrest was made after a video circulating online linked the suspect to the FRSC officer’s abduction and murder.

Abuja, Nigeria — The iNews Times, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken custody of Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, the fugitive accused of abducting and murder Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer Lasisi Funmilayo and her daughter Sewa in separate incidents across Ogun and Osun states. Fajemirokun, 36, was arrested in Ghana on Sunday after fleeing Nigeria to evade security agencies.

According to George Ohene-Boadi, Commander of the Eastern South Regional Police in Ghana, the arrest was made after a video circulating online linked the suspect to the abduction and murder. He confirmed that Ghanaian authorities acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence on his whereabouts.

In a statement issued on Monday, NPF spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin announced that the suspect had been formally handed over to Nigerian authorities.
“The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has taken full custody of fugitive suspect Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun,” he stated, noting that the handover was the result of a coordinated, multi-agency operation.

Ghanaian law enforcement, acting on actionable intelligence, arrested the suspect and notified INTERPOL NCB Abuja, which then deployed a team to Accra to finalize the extradition process.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun extended condolences to the victims’ family and assured Nigerians that investigators will conduct a thorough probe. He added that Fajemirokun will face court charges once the investigation is concluded.

Egbetokun also praised the Ghana Police Service for its prompt cooperation and professionalism throughout the operation.
