‎FRSC, Private Firm Distribute Relief Materials to Anambra’s Vulnerable During Lent

‎…FRSC said the initiative reflected the spirit of love associated with the season and underscored the corps’ commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society.

‎‎ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Onitsha Unit Command in Anambra State, in partnership with Lovebite Food and Beverages, has distributed food items and relief materials to vulnerable residents, accident victims and tricycle operators across Onitsha and surrounding communities.

‎The outreach, held on Friday, saw the FRSC share meals, drinks and other essential items with beggars and other underprivileged individuals as part of activities marking the Lenten season.

‎Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, abstinence and repentance observed by Christians in remembrance of the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, inspired the humanitarian gesture aimed at bringing hope and a sense of belonging to the less privileged.

‎The team also visited accident victims receiving treatment in hospitals to offer additional support and encouragement.

‎Speaking after the exercise, the Onitsha Unit Commander of the FRSC, ACC Godwin Odoh, said the initiative reflected the spirit of love associated with the season and underscored the corps’ commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society.

‎Odoh also used the occasion to commend residents for their cooperation in ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow, particularly along the River Niger corridor, during the Christmas and New Year festivities. He praised officers of the Command for achieving zero traffic crashes and maintaining seamless vehicular movement throughout the Yuletide period.

‎According to him, beyond rescuing crash victims, the corps remains committed to supporting them during recovery by paying hospital visits and extending care within available resources.

‎“Each year at the conclusion of Operation Zero Traffic Crash, we appreciate our personnel for their dedication. The Niger Bridge usually records heavy gridlock during Yuletide, but last year we addressed the challenge decisively. Our officers were fully deployed and worked tirelessly,” he said.

‎He explained that the Command organised its end-of-year celebration, tagged “First Quarter Dubar,” in collaboration with a sponsor, led by the CEO of Lovebite Food and Beverages, Chief Innocent Nwosu.

‎Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Onitsha Unit Command, Kenechukwu Chidoka, disclosed that about 1,000 beneficiaries — including less privileged individuals, tricycle operators and accident victims at Toronto Hospital — benefited from the outreach.

‎Chidoka appreciated sponsors, especially Lovebite Food and Beverages, for partnering with the corps to extend support to vulnerable members of the community.

‎In his remarks, the CEO of Lovebite Food and Beverages, Chief Innocent Nwosu, represented by Nnenna Okoronkwo, expressed satisfaction with the initiative, noting that the company would continue to support vulnerable persons as part of its corporate social responsibility.

‎The Manager of Toronto Hospital, Osy Mbelu, commended the FRSC Onitsha Unit and Lovebite Food and Beverages for their humanitarian gesture towards accident victims, patients and hospital staff.
