…ICPC says the Council Chairman is being investigated for allegedly stealing public funds, diverting resources for personal use, and bypassing official procedures.
The iNews Times reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest and interrogation of Muibi Folawiyo, Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, over alleged large-scale corruption.
The ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, said Folawiyo is being investigated for allegedly stealing public funds, diverting resources for personal use, and bypassing official procedures.
The arrest was made at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after Folawiyo repeatedly ignored ICPC invitations, which he acknowledged.
Although he is currently in ICPC custody, Folawiyo has been granted administrative bail and is expected to report back today as the investigation continues.
The development has significant implications for the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, where Folawiyo has been instrumental in various development projects.
Notably, he has worked closely with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on projects such as the commissioning of dualized Adeniji Adele Road and Tapa Street, as well as the inauguration of new healthcare facilities in the area.
In 2023, Folawiyo also made headlines for leading a peace walk in Lagos Island, alongside other dignitaries, to promote unity and discourage social vices among youths.
Additionally, he has been recognized for his commitment to disability inclusion, with the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Lagos State Chapter commending his efforts in advancing disability rights and providing support to the disability community, The iNews Times reports.
