ENUGU, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Suspected gunmen who tried to abduct a Catholic parish priest in Aguibeje, Enugu Ezike, have killed two members of the Enugu Neighbourhood Watch Group and left another seriously injured.
The gunmen also kidnapped a resident, Patrick Eze, along with his daughter from Umu Ossai clan in the early hours of Saturday in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the Parish House, but the priest raised an alarm, prompting members of the Neighbourhood Watch to respond. A shootout followed, during which two operatives lost their lives. Some of the assailants were said to have fled with gunshot wounds.
Family sources revealed that the kidnappers later broke into Patrick Eze’s home, demanded food which they ate, and abducted him and his daughter as they escaped into the bush between Aguibeje and Kogi State.
As of the time of filing this report, the abductors had yet to contact the family or demand any ransom.
