…the ICPC project tracking in Anambra serves as a monitoring mechanism.

Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times, reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has commenced ICPC project tracking in Anambra State under its Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Exercise (CEPTG).

Team Lead of the Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Group, Nzebunachi Chukwuma, disclosed on Friday that the ICPC project tracking in Anambra which began on February 18, 2026, will cover 68 projects across the three senatorial zones with a total estimated value of N18.4 billion.

He explained that the initiative, introduced in 2019, is designed to promote good governance, transparency and accountability through proper execution of government-funded projects nationwide, in line with the Commission’s preventive and enforcement mandates.

According to him, the ICPC project tracking in Anambra serves as a monitoring mechanism for constituency projects implemented by lawmakers and government agencies, while eliminating opacity in project execution.

Chukwuma noted that the programme is also aimed at ensuring value for money, reducing diversion of funds and other corrupt practices, and guaranteeing that intended beneficiaries fully enjoy the services delivered.

“In Anambra, we will be tracking 68 projects across the three senatorial zones and federal constituencies. These include youth and women empowerment initiatives, road construction, boreholes, school renovation and supply of materials,” he said.

The team lead further revealed that the exercise, now in its eighth phase, will last 10 days and is being conducted simultaneously in 26 states across the country.

He added that the projects were randomly selected by a steering committee to avoid perceptions of bias, noting that the committee comprises representatives of the Federal Budget Office, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, ICPC staff and the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors to ensure accurate valuation of executed projects.

Highlighting achievements of previous exercises, Chukwuma said the ICPC project tracking in Anambra has led to recovery of funds tied to abandoned projects and compelled contractors and lawmakers to return to sites for completion, while offenders faced prosecution.

Speaking on challenges, he identified insecurity and resistance from some political supporters as major obstacles but noted that engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders has helped improve access to project locations.
