Iran Executes Man Convicted of Spying for Israel

Iran executes man

…Iran’s judiciary says Shayesteh was hanged for intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime.

The iNews Times reports that the Iran’s judiciary has announced the execution of Mohammad-Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, a man found guilty of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.

It was learnt that the execution took place on Monday, as fighting between the country and Israel entered its 11th day.

According to the country’s judiciary, Shayesteh was hanged this morning for intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime.

The judiciary also stated that Shayesteh had ties with Mossad and collaborated with Iran International, a Persian-language TV channel based in London that is critical of the Iranian government.

Iran considers the broadcaster to be linked to Israel.

In 2022, during nationwide protests sparked by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, authorities described Iran International as a “terrorist organisation”.

Amini, a young Iranian Kurdish woman, had been arrested for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code for women.

This execution is not an isolated incident, as the country frequently announces the arrest or execution of individuals it accuses of working with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly its arch-foe Israel.

Authorities on Sunday pledged to speed up such cases, and the judiciary announced the execution of Majid Mosayebi, who was also convicted of being an agent for Mossad.

Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei told state television that security-related cases, especially those involving support for the usurping regime (Israel) and acting as a fifth column of the enemy, will be handled more swiftly.

This statement suggests that country will continue to crack down on individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel, The iNews Times reports.

Iran is the world’s second-most prolific executioner after China, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International.

The country’s judiciary has faced criticism for its handling of human rights cases, particularly those involving political dissent and espionage.

The execution of Shayesteh and Mosayebi highlights the escalating tensions between the country and Israel.
