Kebbi Mosque Attack Sparks Outrage After Worshippers Killed During Ramadan

…describing the Kebbi mosque attack as another troubling sign of persistent insecurity.

KEBBI, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that several worshippers are feared dead following a deadly Kebbi mosque attack allegedly carried out by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Dadin-Kowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Kebbi mosque attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday night as Muslim faithful gathered for Taraweeh prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Witness accounts indicate that the armed assailants stormed the mosque, opened fire on worshippers and left multiple casualties in their wake.

Local sources said several residents were killed, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the assault. The mosque was also reportedly vandalised, deepening shock across the community.

Security analyst and crisis journalist Bakatsine disclosed details of the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, describing the Kebbi mosque attack as another troubling sign of persistent insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria.

According to him, the attackers specifically targeted worshippers observing prayers, raising fresh concerns about the safety of religious gatherings during Ramadan.

He lamented the continued bloodshed, questioning how perpetrators of violence against unarmed worshippers during a sacred period could claim any religious justification.

The latest Kebbi mosque attack has heightened fears among residents of Maiyama and surrounding communities, where armed groups have carried out repeated incursions in recent months.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or confirm casualty figures.

The attack adds to growing concerns over Ramadan-related insecurity in northern Nigeria, with observers calling for urgent and decisive security intervention to prevent further tragedies.
