‎Landlady in police net over alleged poisoning of tenant’s child in Ondo

‎…the landlady allegedly administered a liquid substance believed to be poisonous to the child,

‎ONDO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | A 40-year-old landlady, Nafisat Lateef, has been taken into police custody for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant after a minor dispute in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

‎The iNews Times learnt that the matter was reported at the Odigbo Police Division by the child’s mother, 32-year-old Rofiyat. Both the complainant and the suspect reside in Omifon, Odigbo.

‎Police sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. when the landlady allegedly administered a liquid substance believed to be poisonous to the child, identified as Abdulrasheed.

‎The alleged act reportedly followed a misunderstanding between the tenant and her landlady. Shortly after ingesting the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical treatment.

‎Detectives, in a swift and intelligence-driven operation, arrested the suspect and recovered the suspected liquid substance.

‎Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements.

‎Abayomi stated that investigations are ongoing and that the case will be charged to court once investigations are concluded. He cautioned residents against landlord-tenant disputes, noting that such disagreements often undermine peaceful coexistence and can escalate into criminal acts.

‎The police spokesperson assured the public that the Ondo State Police Command remains responsive to all complaints and is committed to ensuring justice in every case.

‎He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.
