The Argentine maestro, already an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, set up Mateo Silvetti in the 67th minute to help Inter Miami clinch the Eastern Conference title and secure a spot in the MLS Cup final against Western Conference champions Vancouver on Saturday, December 6.
Lionel Messi had drawn level with Hungarian great Ferenc Puskás earlier in the match, but his latest assist pushed him clear at the top of the all-time chart. The updated ranking now places Messi on 405 career assists, ahead of Puskás with 404, Pelé with 369, Johan Cruyff with 358, and Thomas Müller with 352. Others on the elite list include Luis Suárez with 317, Kevin De Bruyne with 316, Ángel Di María with 313, Cristiano Ronaldo with 304, and Luís Figo with 283.
Overall, Messi has now amassed 896 career goals alongside his record-setting 405 assists, cementing him as the player with the highest goal contributions in the history of the sport.
