…government will not tolerate actions capable of disrupting the peace Osun State has enjoyed Adeleke insists.

Osogbo, Nigeria — The iNews Times | Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following a violent breakdown of law and order linked to rising tensions over the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun.

According to the state government, the unrest began late Sunday and continued into the early hours of Monday, prompting swift intervention. Prince Famodun, the embattled 30th Owa of Igbajo and former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, died last week at age 67 after a brief illness.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke directed an immediate lockdown of the community to prevent further escalation and restore normalcy.

Adeleke condemned the violence, stressing that his government would not tolerate actions capable of disrupting the peace Osun State has enjoyed.
“My administration will not be a party to any civil disobedience capable of truncating the existing peace and harmony being experienced throughout Osun State, Igbajo inclusive,” he said.

Expressing shock over the disturbances, the governor emphasized the need for order:
“As the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, I hereby declare with immediate effect a total lockdown of the town pending the return to orderliness and harmonious coexistence in the hitherto peaceful Igbajo town.”

To enforce the curfew, the governor ordered 24-hour security surveillance, directing the Army, Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to maintain strict monitoring of the area.

Adeleke also issued a stern warning to residents and non-residents alike:
“Anyone found or caught in any act, openly or clandestinely, that has the tendency of further plunging the town into chaos will be dealt with in line with the dictates of the law,” the statement added.

The tensions in Igbajo come amid an ongoing royal succession dispute.
Prince Famodun was initially installed as Owa of Igbajo in 2022 during the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola. He was later removed by Adeleke through an executive order, which reinstated Oba Ademola Makinde.

However, in January 2025, the Osun State High Court reinstated Famodun, a judgment now under appeal.

Famodun’s death has reignited divisions within the community, triggering unrest and prompting the government’s latest intervention.
